Police found about 3 years, 40-pound woman wearing the collar and chain near Elton Street and Vandalia Avenue in East New York on Tuesday night, according to Richard Gentles, spokesman for the New York Animal Care and control.
“He is not wild animals,” Gentles to the New York Post. “No one has come forward to claim him,” he added, noting that it’s illegal to have the dog wolf hybrid in New York City.
The animal, which seems to be kept as a pet, will not put up for adoption or being released into the wild. He will probably be sent to a sanctuary for unwanted wolf-dogs, a spokesman for the Animal Care and control to The Associated Press.
Gentles said the animal, which is reported to be called “Lady” by those who found her, now living in a room with another canine, although it has its own enclosure. Wolf-dog hybrid is a cross between gray wolves and Germany, Shepherd or husky, malamute, but without genetic testing they would not know for certain, he said.
