What ‘ once on the cars ‘ can teach us about the automotive industry, and Detroit

For those of you who lived it, Bill Vlasic’s new book, “Once Upon a car: the fall and rise of America’s big three automakers-GM, Ford and Chrysler” (William Morrow), is the best book about the whole shebang that You will ever read. And this is a history that is important for us who live and breathe this industry waste in Detroit.

Particular interest to me is an account tick-tock Vlasic was able to build on the GM CEO Rick Wagoner and Fritz Henderson outreach to Bill Ford about a possible merger of the two auto giants. It is shocking how casually calls made for the meeting, as if a great granddaughter of Wagoner asked Henry Ford out for coffee to discuss upcoming Lions game.
